This means very little extra time outside your class. Our instruction format includes lecture, hands on experiential techniques/practice, video and live demonstration in class. We limit our classes to 10 -15 students each so you can get the individualized attention you deserve. Our instructors include licensed professional counselors, licensed clinical social workers, registered play therapist supervisors, certified drug/alcohol counselors, and a nationally certified counselor. Guest instructors may also be utilized in certain modules to enhance the learning experience.

Supervision/Practicum
Supervision that meets APT requirements is called Practicum in our program due to the graduate credits that can be earned through the University of Saint Mary-Overland Park. Client contact hours for supervision are done with your own clients at your own job and  then cases reviewed with your play therapy supervisor. If you can video tape clients, super!  If not, we provide opportunities in our program to meet the face to face client supervision requirements of APT. Our office is also available for use if needed to see clients.

The Theraplay practicum will be an additional weekend commitment (if part of your program) and is scheduled for September 2008 (Thur-Sat).

Graduate Credit Hours
And if you want or need graduate credit hours for your program, we have a cooperative agreement with University of St. Mary in Overland Park that earns you 1 credit hour per class or practicum for only $75 per credit hour.  Graduate credit fees will be in addition to the full program tuition fees. Graduate credit hours will cost $75 per hour and here will be a one time $10 application fee to the University of Saint Mary. Graduate credit hours are optional for each student.

PLAYTALKâ Video Classes

(See the Video Classes section button at top of page for more info)

Classes listed above in Video format (See chart above under module information) are available for non-contact learning hours and eligible for CE hours in play therapy through our APT provider #99-067.  These classes provide 15 hours in CE credit.

How it works:

1.  First you order the video, watch it  & take notes with your written materials.

2. Then submit your paper. Each class has a paper to write that must be done after the video has been viewed. The papers are 5-7 pages synthesis papers in which we ask you to practically apply what you learned in the class to your current or future work in the field of play therapy & mental health.  The class materials with each video class contain a syllabus for the class with the more detailed information on these papers, but they are simple papers, NOT research papers.

3. This paper must be then submitted to us for review. Upon receipt back of the paper and the video, your certificate of completion for your CE hours will be sent to you.  You have 30 days to complete the class from the time it is shipped to you.

To order these classes:

1. Go to the Registration page of our website.                                                                                               2. Choose video class option in the list.                                                                                                          3. Enter the name of the class you wish to order into the area for Additional comments.                                   4. Send payment of $350 plus $50 per video/DVD refundable deposit to:
KC Play Therapy, 7850 Haskell Drive, Kansas City, KS  66106
5. When payment has been received, we will ship out your class video and materials.                                        6. Watch the video along with your written materials used for notes.                                                                 7. Write your paper  per the guidelines on your syllabus in your class materials.                                               8. Return the video and your paper. We will review your paper within 2 weeks and send out your certificate of completion for your CE hours (APT #99-067).
