March 2, 2012 Play Therapy with Adults 8:30-5 CE hrs 6.5
Description: This training will focus on how to incorporate play therapy into treatment with adult clients. How to introduce play to adult clients, how to overcome resistance and special considerations in using play therapy with adult clients will be presented.

Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will learn about how to conduct play therapy with adult clients. 2. Participants will learn about how to incorporate play therapy methods and techniques into a treatment plan. 3. Participants will learn about special considerations in using play therapy with adult clients. 4. Participants will learn about several play therapy techniques to use with adult clients.

March 3, 2012 Play Therapy with Couples 8:30-5 CE hrs 6.5
Description: This training will focus on incorporating play therapy methods and techniques into relationship and couples therapy. How to introduce play therapy to couples and how to overcome resistance will be discussed. Special considerations in using play therapy techniques and how to incorporate play therapy techniques into the treatment plan will be presented.

Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will learn about how to use play therapy in relationship and couples therapy. 2. Participants will learn about special considerations in deciding to use play therapy techniques with couples. 3. Participants will learn about how to introduce play therapy to couples. 4. Participants will learn several play therapy techniques to use with couples.

Check out trainings in June for Drumming (recommended by Bruce Perry) and Bal-A-Vix-X for opportunities to gain new skills. Also KC Play is teaming up with Care Clinics (Topeka) with Mindi Higgins, LCMFT is offering a Parenting That Heals: Therapeutic Parenting workshop. Mindi is trained in Dan Hughes DDP model, a certified Attach clinician and trained in EMDR and Theraplay. This is a great workshop for parents and professionals. Check out our Workshops to sign up for any of these trainings.

KC Play has also added a Sandtrays in Play Therapy workshop in Omaha March 25-26 and you can also get this same training in Georgia this summer.

UPDATE: Denise attended and presented at the Michigan Play Therapy Association state conference where they had over 175 attendees! The training was spectacular and everyone really enjoyed the presentation. They are hoping to have Denise back again. Travel back was an adventure, but it all ended well!

Denise was the recipient of two awards in 2009 from the Association of Play Therapy (APT) for:

  • Professional Education and Training
  • Public Education and Promotion

Play Therapy is a mental health modality; that is, a form of counseling or psychotherapy by which licensed mental health professionals use play-based models and techniques to better communicate with and help clients achieve optimal mental health. It is particularly effective with children because, just as adults use words to communicate ideas and feelings, children use play. Visit the About Play Therapy section of the APT website.

The Association for Play Therapy (APT) is a national professional society formed in 1982 to advance the play therapy modality and serve the research, training, and credentialing needs of its member counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, and social workers.
