Students will learn methods for teaching parents to interact positively with children as well as parent education methods and intervention strategies. Cultural issues affecting family play therapy will be discussed. Case studies and experiential learning will be utilized.

Description: This course will lay a foundation of how to incorporate family therapy intertwined with play therapy. Foundations of client centered play therapy will be overviewed as they apply to Filial Play Therapy models. Child Parent Relationship Play Therapy model will be taught.
Directive Play Therapy techniques will be learned experientially by participants and case application examples used for teaching.

The second special topic will be the use of play therapy with clients in the autism spectrum. Issue of using play therapy, advocating for use of play therapy and play therapy techniques for use with autism will be taught.
